Moonlight Backpackers Lodge is the only backpackers lodge in South Africa that is a game farm, as
far as we know. We are situated only 8 minutes from Hartbeespoort, 15 minutes from Brits, 30
minutes from Pretoria, one hour from Johannesburg and one hour from Sun City and Pilanesberg
national park.
The area around us has many attractions, such as the De Wildt cheetah centre that is only two
kilometers from us. Also see "Things to do in the area".
We often get compliments from clients about our rooms and accommodation, which is of a high
standard compared to backpacker lodges in South Africa and around the world. The rates for our
accommodation are very affordable. See "Accommodation and rates" for photos and more
information.
Moonlight lodge is a backpacker lodge, which means self catering. We have a large well equipped
communal kitchen with all the utensils, cutlery, pots & pans, glasses, fridges and freezers etc
that you will need. You need to bring your own food and spices. We provide free coffee and tea. You
only need to bring your own milk if you drink milk with your coffee and tea.
The communal building has a large kitchen (as above), a large dining area with plenty of tables and
chairs, a toilet with washbasin, pool table and a large lounge with satellite TV (DSTV). We have
large benches outside the building where you can sit in the sun, or under massive wild fig trees to
eat, relax or write your letters and postcards. We also have two braai (BBQ) areas. One is inside
the communal building for when it is raining, and one outside from where you can see the wildlife.
Both braai areas are large enough to braai at one time for twenty people. The outside braai also
has a fire pit with chairs around where you can build a bonfire. You must bring your own firewood
or charcoal to braai with. There are more than fifteen restaurants within 10 minutes from the
lodge, if you are not in the mood to cook.
We have a large variety of wildlife at Moonlight Backpackers Lodge, including a variety of exotic
wildlife. There are two hides (enclosed lookout points) where clients can relax while watching the
wildlife at the waterholes. Every afternoon we put out additional feed by the hides, which attract
large numbers of wildlife.
